Useful, but not perfectDec 21, 2009

The i-pen is a very useful input device but it is far from being a perfect replacement for either mouse or a wacom tablet. The i-pen is about as big as a fat marker, squished on the sides a little, and fits comfortably in the hand. The cord takes a little getting use to but is long enough to allow a large range of motion. On both my XP and my Vista machines the pen worked without installing drivers, just plug and play like a usb mouse. I did not try installing the included software as I was not interested in them. The box also included two extra pen tips for replacing the tip when it wears down.
The cursor is fast and accurate, almost too sensitive - which was fixed by adjusting my default mouse speed. Left clicking is easy with the pen tip. Right clicking is annoyingly hard to do. The button on the pen is the equivalent of the right click button. If you happen to hold the pen to where that button naturally falls under a finger, it may be easier for you. My fingers did not rest there naturally, so I found having to stop and concentrate on reaching over the the small and hard-to-press button annoying and the motion of my hand inevitably moved the cursor away from what I was trying to right click on.
The pen does work best at a certain angle, which may or may not be your best writing/drawing angle. I originally purchased it hoping to use it for drawing and found it ill suited for that task. In certain directions the pen is accurate and responsive, but on certain slanting or upward strokes, the pen seems to not detect the motion, causing a gracefully drawn curve to suddenly go flat. I attribute this largely to my drawing style, but I imagine anyone that draws with a lot of hand/wrist movement will experience this problem as well. Again, the pen only works best when held at a certain angle and drawing tends to move the pen out of that angle frequently enough to be frustrating.
However, I found it immensely practical when not directly drawing. I used it for several hours working in Illustrator and did not experience the finger/wrist fatigue I usually get with a mouse. I was especially pleased to use it any time I was away from my desk - sitting on the couch, at a coffeeshop, on the train, etc.
I was disappointed in the i-pen's responsiveness on any surface other than the included mouse pad. The mouse pad is printed with a grid. On the pen's mouse pad, it responds quickly and clearly. On any other surface, including other mouse pads, I found it sluggish or totally unresponsive. I do like the included mouse pad but I am forced to carry it everywhere I intend to use the pen. Thankfully it is very thin and fits well on top of my laptop keypad with the top shut.

The i-Pen product works as advertised, but we were looking for something our daughter could use as an input device for online classes. It was a little too sensitive for that work, but others in the house have used them quite a bit. Still looking for the right device for schoolwork.

I tried the i-pen and works great to me, because I just used it like a mouse. But if you have an Apple computer this i-pen will not work, we tried and it was very disapointing because in the box says this should not happen.
