By Ingrid This DVD player is just as advertised. Set up was simple - did not even need the instructions. Plays all types of media including the MPEG4 as long as it is in DVDX format.

Now I can view and chat.....Aug 13, 2010
By C.E. Peck Had the conundrum of viewing a film with others in chat room (player in another room)...so ordered the Magnasonic portable dvd player. Another inspiration was 7 yr old next to me on plane, with portable player, enjoying a movie to pass the time.
Shipped expeditiously. Tried out last week and very pleased with its performance. Rechargeable battery with package is a plus.
A nice electronic addition for a very good price. Pleased I treated myself with this.

I bought this item for when I pick up my grand-daughter from school, only she has yet to see or use it, I love it and find it a perfect product to use for my SEWING DVD'S. I have many sewing and quilting DVD's and use them alot, now it comes in very handy right next to my sewing and serger machines, it takes up very little space. I take it with me every where to study my DVD's also. I recommend it as very easy to use.
Brandon's Review of Magnasonic Portable DVD PlayerJan 18, 2012
By akagordon Pros: Light weight; slightly more compact than other portables of same class; excellent battery life (2-2.75 hours depending on DVD's or MPEG4); car charger; A/V out cable allows use as normal DVD player; easy to control from remote or player; good resolution for its size; plays MPEG-4, DVD's, and JPEG flawlessly; does essentially everything claimed with little to no fault.
Cons: does not play AVC MPEG-4 codec, high resolution JPEG's load slowly, horrible interface for selecting MPEG-4 (see other thoughts)
Other Thoughts:
This portable DVD/MPEG-4 player is of far superior quality than others that I've dealt with! There are a few things to be aware of however.
For instance, plan to get some quality ear buds because the built in speakers are not very loud and the ones provided are uncomfortable. You may want to consider a carrying case and perhaps a Velcro strip to attach the remote to the DVD player. Also, when cleaning LCD's and portable devices, in general, do not use your average cleaning agents found around the house; they can dissolve the organic liquid crystals in the screen and corrode electronics parts. You can find a special cleaner for pretty cheap ($6 U.S.) If you intend to only use this for DVD, then this is the probably the only other things you should consider.
I tried all MPEG-4 codecs and it played all but two without trouble. However, the ones which gave trouble were xVid based and AVC based; ironically AVC is probably the most common MPEG-4 and is typically used with iPods and even Blu-ray. In short, this means longer conversion times with less compression. I would recommend getting a reliable converter such as Xilisoft and use the iPod MPEG-4 profile if you intend to utilize this with MPEG-4.There are some free converters available ( ea. DVDX) but they may be more difficult to use. Once converted, simply organize and burn to DVD using your favorite program or a freeware program such as IMGBurn.
Lastly, and I believe this is the only major drawback, the interface for navigating MPEG-4 is not intuitive at all. It abbreviates the title to each file and folder so short that it is not legible, and hence you have to guess at which file you are selecting. It's not necessarily sorted alphabetically either. Coding the files with shorter file names did not help. Multiple folders helped, but very little. It is very frustrating.
However, overall this portable DVD is highly functional and very fairly priced.
