The output jack connects to the main unit to which you would like to expand the number of optical jacks (normally a digital audio/video receiver/amplifier). Switch easily between sources instead of disconnecting and reconnecting cables when needing to change inputs. The compact design will fit in tight areas between components. Works with the following digital audio components: home/portable digital audio components with optical connection, MP3/CD/DVD player including Blu-ray/HD DVD, video game consoles (PS3/XBOX360), computer sound card, cable/satellite receiver to your home theater system with a digital optical input. Operation: To hear your connected sources through your home theater system, turn on your home theater system and the audio source you want to hear. Then, press in the lock release button on the selector's dial and rotate the dial to the indicator corresponding with the source you want (1,2, or 3). A green indicator shows which of the three units is selected (only one can be selected at a time). Release the button to lock the selector in place. The sound from the selected source comes through your home entertainment system's speakers. My speaker system has one optic line in, but I have three components needing to use the speakers (TV, Blu-Ray player, Roku box). This device solved my problem of having to manually change the cable each time I wanted to change inputs. I have not had any problems with this device. It is one of the best things I have ever purchased.

This unit is just as it is pictured but what it doesn't address is the fact that it lacks locking nubs for the optical cables so with the slightest movement they tend to fall out or lose connection. Works well aside from that problem and as I am always trying new equipment and connection schemes it's a pain........

Did exactly what it claimed. Had bought some cheaper ones in the past, but didn't work, so I guess you get what you pay for. This one works PERFECT.

This device worked perfect for me. I have an HD DVD player and a Blu-Ray with a collection of movies in each format. The Nyrius allowed me to watch all of them with perfect sound through my system. The price was way lower than anything that I could get locally.
