Great budget camera systemSep 22, 2010
By Fake name real review Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2GT2CLVEAJG9U I guess my outdated digital camera doesn't have a mic..
Anyway, I am giving this system 5 stars because it is inexpensive, simple to setup, and couldn't be easier to navigate the menu's once you're completely setup.
Since the audio on my digital camera doesn't work: The first half of the video was live footage of what was being recorded at that moment. Then you'll see me easily and quickly navigate the menu to go back to midnight of the night before and show the nightvision capabilities. The camera(3) I zoom in on shows a dark corner that would appear completely black to people looking at it. The nightvision capability of this system is awesome. Camera 2 shows a car in the street, that area has no light around it and you can still clearly see the car and surrounding area.
All in all I'm happy with my purchase. I did a LOT of research before making this purchase and it payed off. I'd definitely recommend this product to a friend.
UPDATE::: The system is working great still with the exception of one camera. The night vision is blurry on one camera and there is obviously something wrong with that specific camera since the problem followed the camera to the four mount points. I contacted SVAT customer service and they told me to send the camera back. I did and two months later I received an email from them saying the camera works fine and they're sending back the original. I received the original back and it still has the problem. They must not have read what I wrote was the actual problem. I'm disappointed with their customer service this time and I guess I'll just buy another camera to replace the broken one.
UPDATE 2::: I uploaded another video real fast to show the system again. The file was too large so I used a free file converter to change the format to make the file smaller. I guess they watermark the video and limit it to 3 minutes. Not a big deal cause it was only 3:09 so the entire video is essentially there. Sorry for the watermark though.

2+ Years and Going StrongJan 02, 2011

I installed the slightly earlier version (no smart phone access) of this system in our 2nd home in December of 2008. It seems that many people post reviews soon after purchasing a product or very soon after something goes wrong with the item or the service. I thought it might be good to post a review from a long time user.
I had some trouble with system set-up (It ended up being a problem with my computer). And, I had to replace one camera about a year ago. The customer service was responsive and helpful. We view the cameras daily from our home 900 miles away, and we've used them to resolve a couple of false alarms with our ADT system. The cameras have been operating outdoors in TN for over 2 years in temps between 5 and 100 degrees in rain, snow, sleet etc. I have recommended this system to many people and will continue to do so.
Bottom line: The system has performed almost flawlessly and the customer service is very good.

Looks better onlineFeb 22, 2011
By jstan After doing some research on these cameras, It seemed these cameras were the best for the price. Real happy with the plug and play setup, very easy to set up. The only thing I am not happy with is the quality of the video. The pics online showed a crisp clear image, these images are very grainy and jumpy. Hard to see faces or licence plate #'s, night vision works, but amplifies low light to the point it blurs out the rest of the image, but for the price not a bad setup. all in all good quality for the price... i would have spent more for a better picture.

By Dennis P. Rabidou I $ this SVAT cam in door and outside in the winter time. This SVAT 4ch with smart phone is the best Security System's I have ever used.It was boxed a-ok it is a easy install, even a child of age 12-15 can set up. The Hi-Res cams are clear The hard drive is easy to work with so I have no Con's to say about this unit, For the money it is a must due to the crime rate soring, When my home was inspected the insurance writer took a photo of this unit and even got a better discount. Be advised some insurance Co's do not give this extra as I did. And most of all I had One cam after 7 mo,of use that had a fault, I returned it back Via White hand glove, Via first class mail (Insured) and in less then 2 weeks my new replacement arrived, Keep up the good work ( SVAT ) and Amazon staff sales and shiping.
Respectfully Submitted,
Dennis P.Rabidou

Nice setup but camera quality lags.Jun 29, 2011
By Justin Setting up this product was a snap...but I decided to take the installation a bit further and utilize my Arc welder to make a thick security box for the DVR (also made a wood box to put around it). So far I have not had any overheating issues and I believe the reason for this is twofold:
1) I live in Upper Michigan and we have cooler temperatures up here even in the summertime. 2) The DVR is kept in the basement where it is cooler. (For those of you who think about breaking in you'd better bring some C4 and blasting caps 'cause that box is indestructible).
The camera quality is decent but I, as others stated, should have spent a bit more for better quality. Bear in mind however, that if you need to bring in the DVR to the cops to analyze suspicious activity then the quality does not matter too much. The police have their own tools to get what they need off the DVR in higher quality than what you would expect. You might want to consider buying a supplement PTZ camera to supplement the 4 cameras that come with the system. Believe me, you WILL find use for another camera. I also recommend buying a trail camera to hide (if you live in the country like I do) to watch your road...just in case your system fails you or the bad guys steal it. My final recommendation is buying a battery backup just in case you are dealing with professional criminals and they cut the power, which would render your camera system useless. I know this seems a bit excessive but hey, if you have belongings to protect they take every precautionary measure to secure them! My Platoon motto in the Army was simple, "Trust nobody!"
Ps: don't forget to post signs identifying the fact that you own and use a camera system. Sometimes this is as much of a deterrent than the actual camera itself.
I hope this helps.
